US announces additional FCFA 900M to fight HIV in Cameroon

By David Atangana

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has announced an additional FCFA 900 million in funding to support the fight against HIV/AIDS in Cameroon’s Littoral Region.

The announcement was made by the US Embassy in Yaoundé on Thursday, August 29, as part of President Joe Biden‘s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).

“The U.S. Embassy is proud to announce a significant increase in the availability of health commodities in Cameroon,” the embassy stated.

“The Regional Fund for Health Promotion in the Littoral Region will receive over 900 million FCFA in additional funding through USAID,” it added.

This support is aimed at enhancing the Increasing Site-Level Availability of Health Commodities (ISAHC) project, which is being implemented across all regions of Cameroon.

The project was initially launched in August 2023 in Douala with an investment of FCFA 588 million.

In July, a USAID team visited Douala to bolster the Regional Fund for Health Promotion and ISAHC teams, ensuring effective project execution and improved health outcomes in the Littoral Region.

The Littoral Region currently has 84,723 people living with HIV, according to regional statistics.
