US demands investigation into killing of humanitarian worker in North West region

The United States through its embassy in Yaounde has extended its condolences to the family and colleagues of Pastor Tanjoh Christopher Fon, killed on August 7 in the North West Region.

In a press release the embassy calls for an investigation into his death, describing it as “a terrible reminder of the dangers humanitarian aid workers face in the Northwest and Southwest Regions of Cameroon.”

“Pastor Tanjoh was a community leader and humanitarian aid worker with the local non-governmental organization Community Initiative for Sustainable Development … We call for an independent investigation into the killing and for the perpetrators to be brought to justice in accordance with Cameroonian law.”

Condemning all acts of violence against humanitarian aid workers, the embassy calls for their “unhindered access to those in need in accordance with international humanitarian law.”

Tanjoh Christopher was killed by alleged separatist fighters who accused him of spying for government forces.
