Donald Trump
The World Health Organization will witness a drop in funding in the days ahead. This is as a result of US President Donald Trump suspending funds to the global health body.
The suspension he said is going to last for 60 to 90 days pending a review of the WHO’s warnings about the coronavirus and China. Trump further accused the WHO of “severely mismanaging and covering up” the threat posed by the coronavirus. To him, “the WHO failed to adequately obtain, vet and share information in a timely and transparent fashion.”
Many have condemned the action including the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres who says “now is the time for unity and for the international community to work together in solidarity to stop this virus and its shattering consequences.”
The US being the WHO’s largest donor, its action is expected to have a lot of dire consequences globally. Last year the US donated 400 million US Dollars to the global health body.
