“Vaccination against the Coronavirus is the only way to guarantee immunity” – René Sadi

The Minister of Communication, René Emmanuel Sadi in a Press Conference yesterday June 16, 2021 in Yaoundé reinforced the government’s stance on fighting the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic effectively through a mass vaccination campaign.

Speaking at the press conference which was also attended by the Minister of Public Health, Dr. Manaouda Malachie, René Emmanuel Sadi reminded people that the pandemic has reached a point where only a vaccination campaign would prevent a national catastrophe.

“Vaccination against the Coronavirus is the only way to guarantee immunity…,” he stated.

Sadi also encouraged still to be immunized Cameroonians to continue following barrier measures as advised by the government and the World Health Organization.

He also noted however that despite Government’s commitment in stamping out the pandemic from the country through vaccination, the response from Cameroonians has been largely underwhelming.

“Although the stock available to date can cover a great part of the projected vaccination needs, it has surprisingly been observed that the expected vaccination rate is relatively low, largely due to the poor adherence of the population,” he said.

The Minister blamed this on disinformation orchestrated by certain opinion leaders and sometimes also by the mainstream media and most of all by the Social Media.

Sadi has sought to clear the air by saying that most of the allegations made on social media are false.

The minister said vaccination is the best and most scientific means used by most European and American countries, which in turn have yielded positive results. The minister however did not deny the possibility of the vaccines having side effects. To that he mentioned that the side effects of present will be largely minimal to the damage it would have should the measures not be implored.

Minister René Sadi took the opportunity to implore the mainstream media to change the narrative and work hand in glove with the government to curb the spread of the virus.

“I therefore call on national media of all leanings to fully commit to and support the implementation of this major objective that I must say is undoubtedly a major national cause.”
