Victoria United, PWD risk relegation as MTN Elite One enters play-offs

Two out of three Anglophone clubs at the MTN Elite One Championship, Victoria United of Limbe and PWD of Bamenda, are among 11 teams battling against relegation as the top tier championship enters the play-offs stage.

The Championship delivered its latest results for match day 18 this Sunday, March 3, with eight clubs, including YOSA of Bamenda, qualifying for the playoffs up, which will determine the champion.

On match day 18, Dynamo FC won a crucial victory against Union FC with a score of 1-0, while Colombe and Aigle drew 0-0.

For their part, Gazelle and PWD also parted with a parity score of 1-1. Les Astres beat Bamboutos 2-0, while AS Fortuna got the better of Canon with a score of 1-0.

The previous Saturday, other meetings took place with varied results. Coton Sport had an important 2-0 victory against Apejes, while Stade Renard and UMS drew 0-0. Yong Sport claimed a close 3-2 victory against Fovu, while Fauve beat Avion 1-0. Victoria United was exempt on this day.

Following these results, eight teams qualified for the Up play-offs, which will determine the champion of Cameroon, are now known. In Pool A, we find Dynamo, Canon, Gazelle and Colombe, while in Pool B, Stade Renard, Coton Sport, Yong Sport and Fauve will compete for the title.

On the other hand, the teams condemned to play the play-offs Down, which will determine the clubs relegated to Elite Two, are numerous. Union, Aigle, Bamboutos, PWD, Astres, AS Fortuna, Victoria, Ums, Fovu, Avion and Apejes will have to fight to avoid relegation.

The official dates and location of the play-offs and play-downs will be announced soon. The suspense remains intact in this exciting championship where every match counts for the competing teams.
