Victoria United’s Nji Richmond now top goal scorer in Elite One

By Tata Mbunwe

Victoria United’s striker, Nji Richmond, is now the top goal scorer at the ongoing MTN Elite One Championship, with an impressive 12 goals in 13 games.

He has scored a brace twice and is the only player who has scored a hat trick at the competition this season.

However, the striker faced a setback when his side, Victoria United, was deducted three points by FECAFOOT as a sanction, resulting in the reduction of one of his goals from the initial count of 13.

Richmond has been scoring at a remarkable pace.

After scoring two goals in Victoria United’s 3-0 win against Fovu of Baham on December 30, 2023, he proceeded to net all three goals that gave the club a 3-2 triumph over Apejes of Mfou on January 7, 2024.

While Richmond is only two goals shy of matching last season’s top goal scorer, Emmanuel Mahop of Coton Sport, the competition for the coveted golden boot remains intense.

As of matchday 14, Richmond faces stiff competition from other skilled players vying for the golden boot.

Armand Kooh of Les Astres closely follows with 11 goals, while Katche Boris of Bamboutous has secured 9 goals.

Additionally, Seini Hamit of Union and Leonel Ateba of Dynamo have registered 7 goals each, demonstrating the competitive landscape in the race for the top goal scorer accolade.

Although Victoria United currently occupies the 5th position in Group B, with 15 points, the club is definitely proud of Nji Richmond, as his picture has dominated the club’s fliers.
