The man known only as ‘Pa Khongor’ was accused of witchcraft. The video shows him standing in a freshly dug grave and youths of Bih Village, In Nkambe Central Subdivision, North West Region of Cameroon, gathered around.
MMI has not been able to confirm whether the man was eventually buried. However, the video further shows his house burned to the ground by some youths.
Pa Khongor is heard in the video having a discussion with the young people, in what appears to be a plea, before being forced to sit in the floor of the grave.
Such incidents of communities meting out jungle justice on individuals accused of witchcraft are rampant in many parts of Africa. Recently, MMI reported the case of parents in Awae Escalier, Yaounde, who tortured their 10-year-old daughter named Yawé, accusing her of being a witch.
What is your opinion about witchcraft?
Is it consistent with Christianity to punish persons designated as ‘witches’?
