Was Ronaldo Truly Booed at the Ngannou-Fury Fight?

Recent reports have made waves in the sports world, suggesting that Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the greatest footballers of all time, faced boos at the Francis Ngannou vs. Tyson Fury fight.

The events of this hotly contested fight, which Tyson Fury controversially won, took place in Saudi Arabia on October 28 and into the early hours of October 29.

Just moments before the match began, as Ronaldo was taking his seat beside his partner, Georgina Rodríguez, a few shouts reverberated from the crowd.

According to the reputable UK-based sports platform, Daily Mail Sport, these sounds emanating from the spectators were indeed boos.

On their official Facebook page, Daily Mail Sport shared a photo of the five-time Ballon d’Or winner with the caption, “CRISTIANO RONALDO BOOED BEFORE TYSON FURY’S FIGHT WITH FRANCIS NGANNOU.”

Their website also reported, “Accompanied by his girlfriend, Georgina Rodriguez, Ronaldo was greeted by scattered boos as he walked to his ringside seat.”

This post, however, ignited a wave of reactions, with many contesting that the noises were not “boos” but the familiar “siuu,” a signature chant associated with Ronaldo from his time with Real Madrid.

“It’s not a boo… It’s a ‘siuu’ that you can hear when he scores a goal, and the fans scream it loudly. But it does sound like booing,” commented Toamwane, a Daily Mail Sport follower.

Similarly, Daniel Uchechukwu Lawrence added, “Where and when was he booed? You guys are just bitter to see the man happy and enjoying his life. This is the beginning of your sadness because you guys will keep following him to see if there is any bad news to report while he enjoys his life.”

Meanwhile, other users, like Jayesh Chavan, accused the platform of using Ronaldo’s name for clickbait. He remarked, “You needed clicks on your article, so you used his name… Don’t bite the hand that feeds you… Show some respect.”

Chainz Wrld also commented “It’s two different people fighting but Ronaldos making highlight, media can’t eat without this man’s name.

Based on the reactions of the fans and upon further listening to the clips from the night, MMI came to the conclusion that the Daily Mail Sport report is likely false and there is no evidence to substantiate the claim that Ronaldo was booed.

It’s worth noting that Cristiano Ronaldo has shown unwavering support for Francis Ngannou in the lead-up to his clash with Tyson Fury. Just days before the fight, Ronaldo gifted the Cameroonian heavyweight champion a luxurious Jacob & Co. watch valued at approximately $117,000 (roughly FCFA 72.3 million).
