We do not inflate numbers of repentant separatist fighters – NW DDR coordinator

The coordinator of the Bamenda Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration (DDR) Center, Kum Henry Itchu has dismissed suggestions that the center is inflating figures of ex-separatist fighters at the facility.

In an interview with state media, Kum Henry stated that there are over 200 persons at the center mainly former separatist fighters.

He noted that the ex-fighters have been trained in tailoring, agriculture, computer science, and livestock for progressive integration into society.

“You can create the jobs. We have a good number of them who have already settled but the amount of training we give them as of now is not adequate to permit them to settle comfortably on their own”, he said.

The center had come under serious backlash from the population following recent happenings. The killing of an ex-fighter by a military officer and the disappearance of some from the center.

During the visit of the Prime Minister to Bamenda, 12 purported fighters were presented to the PM. But days after during an event at the center, none of the 12 fighters were present.
