Hon. Patricia Tomaino Njoya, Mayor of Foumban in the West Region has stressed on the need for more laws and regulations to combat vices against women and girls in society.
The former MP and Interim president of the Cameroon Democratic Union, CDU, opposition party was speaking on Equinoxe TV’s La Verite en Face where she said women have been playing their part over the years, but more action needs to be done.
“It is very difficult to be a woman in politics especially in a culture where we have a tradition of discrimination against women and girls but I know that in our society women are respected. As a woman, everyone in society knows that we are mothers. Everyone calls me mum for example. That is a sign of respect,” she said.
“Everyone,” the firebrand politician said, “knows that in our homes we do our best to entertain the family and for me it is a kind of dichotomy because in true life women are respected but in society it is a confiscation of confidence of women”.
“The state has to protect women and girls. We cannot wait for everyone. It is not a Cameroon issue, but an international kind of relationship between humans. That is why we have to have laws to protect women and girls,” Mayor Patricia Tomaino Njoya stated.
The CDU party, the Mayor stated has over the years given pride of place to women to show their leadership capabilities.
“… We are determined to go everywhere in Cameroon to let Cameroonians know how we have done in the Noun Division,” she pledged.
