Cameroonians are calling on the FECAFOOT president, Samuel Eto’o, to ensure that Lionel Messi keeps his promise to visit the country.
Messi had made the promise during Eto’o’s presidential campaign in 2021, and many fans are eager to see the Argentine football superstar in person.
After Kylian Mbappe why not Messi?
The calls for Messi to visit Cameroon have intensified in recent hours, following the first-ever visit of Kylian Mbappé to the country. Mbappé is currently visiting Cameroon as part of his role as an ambassador for the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
He is also visiting for humanitarian purposes.
Mbappé’s visit has been met with great enthusiasm by Cameroonians, and it has only served to remind them of Messi’s promise. Many fans believe that Eto’o should “use his influence to make sure that Messi keeps his word.”
“We were so excited when Messi said he would visit Cameroon,” said one fan. “We’ve been waiting for him ever since, and we’re starting to get impatient.”
Another fan said, “Mbappé’s visit has shown us that it’s possible to get big stars to come to Cameroon like Messi. We just need Eto’o to make it happen.”
It remains to be seen whether Messi will actually visit Cameroon. However, the calls for his visit are growing louder, and Eto’o might be under pressure to make it happen.
