Cameroonian whistle blower and activist, N’zui Manto, has alleged that journalist Samuel Wazizi, who died in detention in 2019, was murdered and buried by secret service agents at a farm several miles from Yaounde.
In a post yesterday, he said Wazizi was buried at a farm in Mfou, several miles from Yaounde, where he claimed many other General Directorate for External Research (DGRE) victims are secretly buried.
He also corroborates suspicions that journalist Samuel Wazizi was tortured to death by uniformed officers, pointing direct fingers at the DGRE.
MMI cannot however verify what N’zui Manto has said — as the Yaounde government has failed to provide concrete answers more than two years after Wazizi was murdered in detention.
Meanwhile, the government claimed the journalist had died of sepsis while in detention and was not tortured to death as popular belief had it.
Journalists in Cameroon, especially those in the English-speaking Regions, have clamoured in vain for justice for Samuel Wazizi, a former anchor at Chillen Media Television.
He was arbitrarily arrested in Buea on August 2, 2019, detained incommunicado for 10 months before being pronounced dead in June 2020.
Close to three years after, Wazizi’s body is yet to be handed to his family, who told media sources they had been threatened by the government to stay quiet.
Wazizi’s manipulated death was not the end of government-related attacks on journalists in Cameroon.
Authorities are still investigating yet another gruesome murder of a journalist, Martinez Zogo, who was reportedly killed by DGRE agents who allegedly tortured Wazizi to death.
