Woman abandons newborn baby hours after giving birth in Tiko

A search is underway for a woman identified as Henrietta after she abandoned her newborn daughter at the Tiko Integrated Hospital immediately following delivery. The puzzling incident has left the hospital staff concerned for both the woman’s well-being and the fate of the child.

“She came and said she wanted to deliver,” recounted a hospital staff member to MMI. “The nurses thought she was joking at first.” After assisting Henrietta with the birth of a baby girl, the staff left her to rest momentarily while completing paperwork. Upon returning just 30 minutes later, they found Henrietta and her belongings gone. “She came alone, without a bag or anything with her,” the staff member added, emphasising the suspicious nature of her disappearance.

Henrietta reportedly presented a false name to the hospital administration and exhibited strange behaviour during her stay. “We noticed she was acting suspicious, roaming around the building several times,” another source revealed. As of now, her whereabouts remain unknown.

Despite the suspicions surrounding Henrietta’s motives, the hospital staff stressed the paramount importance of finding her. “So many people have shown interest in adopting the child,” a source said, “but we cannot release her until her mother is found.”

Further complicating the situation, Henrietta’s family denied any knowledge of her pregnancy. “She separated from us a while ago to live with her lover,” stated a family member. “We had no idea she was even expecting.”

Henrietta’s partner has claimed he was unaware of her condition. “Every time I asked about her stomach, she’d brush it off as natural weight gain,” he told the social affairs commission.

While the true reasons behind Henrietta’s actions remain unknown, the hospital staff pleads for her to come forward and offer an explanation. “Maybe she has her reasons,” one staff member acknowledged, “but she needs to explain why she abandoned her own baby after birth,” the staff added.

Amidst the ongoing search for Henrietta, the hospital assures the public that the baby girl is receiving appropriate care. A representative confirmed that “the health institution is taking care of the baby, and she is doing well.” “Once Henrietta’s situation is resolved, the authorities will determine the best course of action for the child’s future,” our source added.

The Tiko Hospital and the social affairs commission urge anyone with information regarding Henrietta’s whereabouts to come forward. Despite the uncertainty surrounding her, the abandoned baby girl waits for her mother’s return or placement in a loving home.

Several mothers in other parts of Cameroon are under investigation after they abandoned their newborn babies and fled to unknown destinations.
