Woman arrested for pouring hot oil on boyfriend
A woman has been arrested in Douala after she admitted to pouring hot oil on her boyfriend.
Malapa Anne Josianne, who now faces charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, said she did it out of anger.
Kayire Sule, her boyfriend, is in critical condition at the hospital. The oil burned part of his face.
Phone Argument
Sule recounted that his girlfriend violently reacted against him after he tried to retake his, which she confiscated, on Sunday evening.
“She confiscated my phone and when I wanted to take it, she poured hot oil on me,” Sule said.
Anne Josianne, the girlfriend, admitted to the act, saying that she was carried away by anger.
“Yesterday my boyfriend came home and we had a misunderstanding because of a bed and telephone,” Josianne said on Monday.
“We fought and I poured hot palm oil on him.”
Not The First Time
Sule revealed that this was not the first time Josianne had attempted to harm him. Their three-year-old relationship broke up at one time before they reunited following repeated quarrels and disagreements.
This recent incident mirrors the upsurge in cases of domestic violence in Cameroon. Experts say among many measures that can be taken to stem violence in relationships include education and awareness programs, economic empowerment programs for women, and support services for victims.
Many say more needs to be done to prevent the phenomenon in Cameroon.
“The government so far has not been doing much regarding the rampant cases of domestic violence happening lately in the country. I think a proper program needs to be organized to reshape this severe problem which has been claiming the lives of many,” said Cameroonian Facebook user, Madeline Asoufack.
