A woman has lost her life while attempting to rescue her electrocuted grandchild in Yaounde, Centre Region of Cameroon.
The incident which took place in the Oyomabang neighborhood resulted in the death of both the woman and her grandchild.
According to neighbours, their death could be attributed to the carelessness of the family members in the household.
They revealed that cables were often carelessly displaced in the home of the deceased.
One of the witnesses recounted that “the child who came to the house for holidays was playing, and ran into a cable which she picked and got electrocuted.”
The eyewitness further explained that it was the screams from the electrocuted child which alerted the grandmother who in an attempt to rescue the former, also got electrocuted.
They were later rushed to the hospital where the child and grandmother were pronounced dead.
“We are short of words. It is barely two days that little girl arrived at the house for the holidays and the unexpected has happened.” said a neighbour.
The grandmother according to the neighbours was well known for her adorable personality, especially her love for kids.
Meanwhile, the corpses have been taken to the mortuary, pending burial.
