Woman & her Children Arrested for Stealing Cable Images in Mbouda.

By Washira Helene

A woman, still to be identified by MMI was arrested with her two children, aged 4 and 2, on June 21, 2023, in Mbouda, Cameroon, for ‘stealing’ cable images.

The cable man noticed that the family was watching cable TV without subscription, while passing cables over her roof.

According to the cable man and what he noticed, the woman has been illegally using his images for 2 years without payment.

He immediately alerted the police who came and took both the woman and her children to the police station.

The cable man is asking the woman to pay the sum of 75,000 FCFA as compensation.

At the moment of this report, the woman and her children have been thrown into the cell awaiting trial.

It is not clear whether they are being charged with a criminal offence and what section of the law is being applied.

Legal experts have argued that unless the woman is being charged with a criminal offence, she should not be remanded in custody for what is a civil case.

Others have questioned why the children were arrested alongside their mom.

MMI has reached out to the holding officers for comment.
