Heavy duty trucks and other vehicles of the same category have been banned from plying the road from Mache de Fleurs to the Dibamba bridge at the East entrance to Douala.
In a commuque published by Mboutou Benjamin, Senior Divisional Officer of Wouri Division in the Littoral region, heavy duty trucks are forbidden from using the stretch of road from Mache de Fleurs to Dibamba bridge from 7:00am to 9:00 pm every day.
The civil administrator, while calling on local administrative and security forces to enforce the decision, adds that defaulters of the decision will face administrative sanctions.
Despite this, the commuque precised that military trucks and others transporting fruits and medicine are excluded from the decision.
The decision banning the circulation of heavy duty trucks at the East entrance from 7:00 am to 9:00pm springs from daily traffic congestion along the road. Despite a total rehabilitation of the stretch of road, traffic holdups continue to be the order of the day with corresponding economic and social inconveniences.
The decision of the SDO of Wouri fails to mention anything concerning the West entrance to Douala (Bonaberi) an area noted for similar traffic congestion problems.
Observers say this is not the first time the administration has imposed such a decision but always failed at the stage of implementation.
