Father Pierre Lucien Betene, the oldest priest of the Yaounde Archdiocese in the Catholic Church has died at 82.
The 82-year-old priest died from an illness on August 1 after having been retired for a few years.
Resident at Notre Dame des Victoires Cathedral in Yaoundé, he was the oldest priest in the Archdiocese of Yaoundé.
Ordained a priest on March 6, 1971, by Monsignor Jean Zoa, the prelate left the land of men after more than 50 years of priestly life.
In addition to his function as a priest, the native of Bikok, Centre region of Cameroon had several hats, including that of educator and songwriter.
According to the official page of the Archdiocese of Yaoundé, the deceased ” marked generations with his musical imprint, keen on culture and tradition, he leaves the priestly scene leaving behind him an immense work and souls in pain”.
Father Pierre Lucien Betene had a motto: “You are my friends if you do what I command you. I call you friends because I have made known to you all that I have learned from my Father”.
