The Yaounde City council has denied news reports indicating that the recently built Monument Patriote will be demolished.
The news stemmed from a recent correspondence by the Minister of Housing and Urban development.
The said document talked about the portion of the Yaounde autoroute which passes through the city. Having to share the same intersection with the monument, multiple media houses reported that the monument will be brought down for the sake of the road.
In a press conference on October 7, Dominique Mbassi, head of Communication and Public Relations at the City Council indicated that “There was more fear than harm. The reality is that there was an attempt at proliferating disinformation … Monument Patriote is not threatened,”
He equally debunked rumors indicating that the erection of the Patriotic Monument cost several billions.
It should be noted that the Patriotic Monument was officially inaugurated on May 19, 2022, by the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Celestine Ketcha Courtes.
