Yaounde: Controversy as man dies in a “place of worship”

The body of a man reportedly retrieved from a place of worship in Yaounde has been laid to rest but there is still controversy over how and where he died.

An association known as “Cameroon Youth For Jesus”(CYJ) Yaounde branch has distanced itself from media allegations that the man in question died in their place of worship.

In a Facebook message to Mimi Mefo Info, Julius N. Esunge, National President of “Cameroon Youth For Jesus” writes: “No one was brought for any such service and no one died after such prayers for healing. CYJ is not a church, does not hold healing services and does not have pastors. If there is anything as such, it is not related to CYJ.
“Besides, I can tell you that no such thing is happening in the Ngoa-Ekelle neighbourhood”.

Retracing what he knows happened, the leader of the association says “The remains of an adult male were found in a room used by his brother (FN) on Sunday May 24th at about 4:00pm while his brother was in Bertoua. The remains were found by two of the brother’s friends (initials TV and RN) and these two immediately notified the police by dialing 1510. On arrival, the police collected statements from the witnesses who discovered the body”.

According to a report broadcast on Canal 2 International TV 19:50 News Monday 25th 2020, neighbours of “Cameroon Youth for Jesus” building at Cradat quarter in the Ngoa-Ekelle neighborhood explained that the man was taken to the place of worship sick and later died there.

The TV report suggests that the pastor of the place of worship accepted to pray for the resurrection of the man. This failed to happen until neighbors alerted forces of law and order.

The Cameroon Youth for Jesus has denied this version, insisting that the man died in a house behind the place of worship.

While the bereaved family is still in grieve, Esunge of CYJ says “no family is on the lookout for any pastor, and no pastor is on the run.”
