Yaoundé: Five arrested over death of presidential guard

Five persons allegedly involved in the assassination of Sergeant Jean Robert Mati in service with the presidential guard in Yaounde, Center Region have been arrested.

The tragedy occurred on the night of August 3 to 4, 2022 in the locality of Ngona, in Nkoabang in Yaoundé. The suspects are aged between 23 and 30.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Guy Hervé Mvogo Abanda, head of the judicial research and fight against organized crime service, “the victim was surprised that day around 2 a.m., by an ambush cleverly orchestrated by armed men. They certainly wanted to seize his motorcycle but faced with his resistance, had no choice but to stab him.”

Investigations revealed that the suspects arrested, are specialized in stealing electronic devices, gas cylinders, and vehicles and had aimed to rob the sergeant.

The motorcycle of Mbida Tsoungui alias Barack served as a means of transport to the place of the attack according to the gendarmerie.

They were arrested and presented to the public on November 8, 2022.

According to the security forces, two others are still on the run.
