The sum of over one hundred thousand francs cfa was taken from Tembu Daniel; a popular Cameroonian comedian better known in his artistic name as “237 Town Cryer” by elements of Cameroon national gendarmerie.
The incident occured around Post Central roundabout in Yaounde Sunday October 18th 2020.
According to a member of his management team, ” Town Cryer and his personal assistant were taken at about sun set. Detained for several hours and released after 11:00 pm Sunday October 18th 2020. They let him go after collecting all the cash from him.That is not all,they followed and order him to withdraw more money from his ATM after driving to about eight MOMO kiosks to no avail”.
In a short video Mimi Mefo Info received from the communication team of 237 Town Cryer, the comedian is seen trying to withdraw money from ATM in the presence of his personal assistant while a hillux bearing the name of Cameroon national gendarmerie is standing beside.
Another video shows the comedian and his PA being transported in the gendarmerie hillux.
“Even when he pretended to be asmatic and having an attack at the time of the incident, the elements insisted he transfer what was in his MOMO account. Fortunately for him,the connection was poor. That is when they order 237 Town Cryer to do the withdrawal from his ATM”. Our source added.
Our source said “…gendarmerie elements extorted money from the artist for protesting against Phone tax earlier imposed on Cameroonians by the government”.
Despite haven lost money in the hands of Cameroon defense forces for protesting against phone tax, 237 Town Cryer team has expressed contentment that the protest has yielded fruit. “The president of the Republic has just suspended the phone tax. This is good news for the comedian 237 Town Cryer and the entire team working with him. Despite this, we denounce such a treatment on Town Cryer and his Personal assistant “.
237 Town Cryer is a comedian that is known in Cameroon and beyond for standing against social, political and economic injustices meted on the people of Cameroon.
