Yaounde I University students cry foul over distribution of presidential grants

The distribution of presidential grants for high performing students of the University of Yaounde I for the year 2018/2019 is currently underway.

Less than a day into the finance disbursement process, students have began raising red flags, signalling practices they say are unjust.

“We are told salary earners who are students will not benefit,” says a student who questions what will be done since “… The money has been disbursed already”.

Beneficiaries whose occupations on their ID cards are not displayed as ‘student’, a source says, have had a hard time getting their grants causing some to use the back door.

“I had to forgo 10,000FCFA to those doing the payment,” a disgruntled student tells MMI.

University authorities have made no official declarations at the moment, but students say there is need to take immediate action to ensure justice is done.
