Residents of Mballa 2, Yaounde, are yet to unravel the mystery surrounding the lifeless body of a man who was found hanging from a belt on a locked gate in the neighbourhood on Tuesday, May 7.
The man, whose identity has not been disclosed, was found with both feet firmly planted on the ground, holding a white handkerchief in his right hand, while a belt was secured around his neck and suspended from the gate.
Residents testified, seeing him alive and well just hours before his tragic demise. While the cause of his death remains uncertain, it was suspected he had hanged himself.
Malone Tchelp, a neighbourhood resident, recalled a disturbance earlier in the night, with a woman screaming accusations of theft or robbery when the deceased man approached the said house.
William Biaga, another resident, noted that he had encountered the deceased earlier, offering him a drink before the man reportedly left to socialise with others.
“It’s this morning that I woke up, and they told me that the guy I gave beer to yesterday is dead. He hanged himself,” Biaga said in disbelief.
A woman who arrived at the scene that morning, all tears, claimed to be the deceased’s wife and mother of his children.
She revealed that the man had informed her he was going on a mission to Douala before his untimely demise.
Amidst the confusion, the circumstances surrounding the man’s death remain unclear, leaving many unanswered questions.
The landlady of the property where the incident occurred has been taken in for questioning, but details of her involvement, if any, have not been disclosed.
