Yaounde: Statue of Francis Ngannou provokes mixed reactions

A statue of Francis N’Gannou found in the neighbourhood of Nsimeyong Yaounde has generated mixed reactions as many say it is not a reflection the real Ngannou.

The identity of the artist behind this is still to be gotten by MMI. Many say they fail to see any resemblance between the statue and the UFC heavyweight champion Ngannou.

“It is only the artist who knows what he was producing because this is not the UFC champion we know “ said a social media user after seeing it.

“I see this statue everyday in Nsimeyong and question myself each time how will Francis Ngannou feel after seeing this” said a Twitter user.

Another person reacting on this said the statue is Francis Ngakwe and not Ngannou.

Some have however praised the artist arguing that it is a work of art and should allow people to interpret it.

“the fact that many people are saying it is not Ngannou, actually means they see something about him in the statue. It is a work of art and the creator has something they want to communicate. I believe they succeeded in that regard,” argued one Facebook user.

What are your thoughts on this statue and what marks do you attribute to it?
