Two students of Lycee Elig Esono in Yaoundé, Cameroon are being interrogated by authorities. They were caught today in possession of marijuana and bladed weapons on campus.
“The two students had been notorious for bad behavior at school,” says a source at the institution, suggesting they have often been acting under the influence of drugs.
The recent bust brings to mind the ongoing school deviant behavior challenge plaguing the country as a whole.
Addressing parliament last year, Minister Nalova Lyonga in charge of Secondary Education said the state was doing all within its powers to limit violence and drugs in the school milieu.
Despite her announced strategy, there has been an increase in reported cases of violence on students and teachers and other forms of deviancy in schools nationwide.
