Yaounde VI Divisional Officer Bans PCRN from Youth Day Parade

The Divisional Officer (DO) for Yaounde VI, Etoundi Joseph Alain, has issued a decision prohibiting the Cameroonian Party for National Reconciliation (PCRN) from participating in the 59th Youth Day celebrations within the subdivision.

The ban, outlined in a release signed on February 7, 2025, cites internal leadership disputes within the party as the reason for the exclusion.

According to the DO’s statement, the dual leadership within the PCRN makes it ineligible to take part in the 59th edition of the National Youth Day parade in Yaounde VI. The order also instructs law enforcement officials to ensure strict implementation of the decision.

The leadership dispute within the Cameroonian Party for National Reconciliation (PCRN) has been a significant issue in recent times. On September 5, 2024, the Kaélé Court of First Instance in the Far North Region dismissed the claims of Robert Kona, a founding member of the PCRN, who sought to annul the party’s 2019 congress that appointed Cabral Libii as the national president. The court deemed Kona’s claims baseless, thereby reaffirming Libii’s leadership.

As of now, the leadership crisis within the PCRN persists, with both factions maintaining their positions despite legal interventions.

The move by the D.O. has sparked political reactions, with Sylvain M. Tjock, mayor of Eseka and a PCRN member, strongly condemning the ban. In a public statement, he questioned whether Cameroon still operates as a republic, accusing authorities of “deliberately flouting court decisions” while benefiting from laws that govern the nation.

As of now, the PCRN, led by Cabral Libii, has not officially responded to the ban, neither has that led by Robert Kona.
