You are the eyes, ears of society – NCC Boss tells pressmen in Bamenda

The President of the National Communication Council, Joe Chebonkeng Kalabubse has told journalists practicing in Bamenda that they are the eyes and ears of society.

Joe Chebonkeng Kalabubse was speaking Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at the Conference Hall of the Regional delegation of Scientific Research and Innovation at the end of his one-day visit to the region.

The president used the meeting to call on the media professionals in the North West region to continuously exercise the cardinal journalism principles of objectivity, fairness, and balance in Conflict reporting.

He disclosed that seminars will be organized to empower the media in the region in terms of conflict reporting.

“We have a lot of challenges because of the internet, let it serve us as a source of information and not the destruction it’s doing in our society today”.

“As professionals let’s remain relevant because we are living in a world of citizen journalism so the public can still rely on us for credible information with the way we treat information rather than on the internet, on which forum they have published this or that story,” Joseph Chebonkeng emphasized.

Joe Chebonkeng, during his installation as NCC president, took the commitment to clean up the media landscape in Cameroon off charlatans.

Appointed last June 4 by Presidential decree, Joe Chebonkeng took over from media icon Peter Essoka with the mission to fight against hate speech and the propagation of fake news in the Cameroonian media landscape made up of some 600 press organs, 100 radio stations, 30 TV channels and about 500 online and television structures.
