Youth attempts suicide in Maroua

A young man estimated to be in his mid 20’s attempted to end his life by throwing himself from an elevated area of close to 200 meters in height, in the city of Maroua, Far North Region.

Such cases in this area are said to be numerous. According to reports, there are hundreds of youths in this region who have grown frustrated by the lack of opportunities in the country and have consequently turned to live lives of crime such as armed robbery in order to make ends meet.

Some of these youths as a consequence of this frustration have also joined the Boko Haram terrorist group where they use the opportunity to loot and steal from the population.

This could as well be the case of this unfortunate young man who also sought to end his life by throwing himself off a 200-meter high bridge in Moyo, Maroua.

Unfortunately for him, he landed whole and sound on the ground. After several medical tests were run on the young man, it was discovered he neither suffered from a mental illness nor a drug problem.
