Bamenda: 10-year-old girl goes missing, leaves behind a ‘goodbye’ letter to parents.

By David Atangana

A 10-year-old girl has gone missing in Bamenda, North West Region living behind a letter addressed to her parents which MMI got a copy.

Awah Hananela Bih left their compound at P and T garage near the ENEO power plant in Mankon, Bamenda early today Saturday, July 15, 2023.

Her father told MMI that she left after her mother went to the market — leaving her with her siblings at home.

“It was this morning. The mother went to the food market to buy and left her with her younger ones… upon her return, the daughter had handed the note to the younger ones and took off,” explained a pastor close to the family.

The parents who were in shock “rushed to church with the note and we all went to the police station to report the matter,” continued the pastor.

The parents are now in total confusion following the ‘unexpected’ decision of the teen.

“Goodbye mama”

Before leaving the house, Bih left behind a note addressed to her mother, justifying her decision.

“Mama, I will be gone for eight years please.Try to live without me,” part of the letter reads.

Asking the mother (parents) not to bother looking for her, she said “you cannot find me because I am very far from here.”

According to the letter, Bih explained that her reason for leaving is to enable her live a successful life.

“I wanted to do this to live a successful life because I am irresponsible living with you all,” she said.

Promising to come after eight years she conditioned the parents to give her a call after four years making available two mobile telephone numbers.

Shock

The parents of the 10-year-old have been worried ever since the news broke out early this morning.

Speaking to MMI, the father said she acted like a grown up, creating the impression that she might have been influenced by an external force.

“She is my first born and my only girl child. She was at home with other siblings When we were away. She took a piece of paper, wrote down their letter which I sent and packed her clothes in ‘sacks and moto’ and left,” the father recounted.

It is now a matter of conjecture as no one knows whether the action of the teen is linked to child trafficking or simply lured given that she acted voluntarily.

Despite lodging a complaint with the police, they are also pleading with the population to assist in the ongoing search.

The mother can be reached on 671227456 while the father is available on 677899268.
