Tensions flared in Wum, a locality in the Northwest Region of Cameroon, after the alleged kidnapping of a Fulani herdsman by members of the Aghem Community.
According to reliable local sources, Useini Adamu, was abducted on May 13, 2025 by four men and taken to an unknown destination.
As news of his abduction spread across the Fulani community, anger and frustration boiled over. On May 14, dozens of Fulani youths went on a violent rampage in Zongefu, reportedly targeting local structures and residents in an attempt to “send a message” over the rising wave of insecurity.
The rampage resulted in the vandalization of the Zongefu Palace, leaving the traditional institution badly damaged. Local residents, angered by the violence, launched retaliatory attacks against the rampaging youths.
Local sources told MMI that at least seven people were seriously injured in the chaos, and tragically, two deaths have been confirmed.
In a development aimed at calming tensions, security forces have reportedly arrested the four men accused of kidnapping Useini Adamu.
In a press released signed by Abdoulahi Aliou, the Senior Divisional officer for Menchum, he confirmed that “four people who have confessed the crime have been arrested”
He also cited that the conflict is not as a result of ethnic differences as widely claimed on social media but it stems from ill intention individuals.
While investigations are ongoing to track down kidnapping criminals in wum, Useini has reunited with his family.
Previous community conflicts involving the Fulanis have stemmed from clashes with farmers over grazing land.https://mimimefoinfos.com/farmer-grazier-conflict-leaves-man-hospitalized-in-nkambe/
