Njingti Clovis, a young farmer in Nkambe, has been hospitalised after sustaining serious injuries during a confrontation with a Fulani grazer. This is a part of the wider farmer-grazier conflict in some parts of Cameroon.
The scuffle occurred recently at the Njema neighbourhood in Nkambe town.
Clovis is reported to have approached the Fulani herder whose cattle allegedly damaged his crops—tomatoes and vegetables.
The response from the herder was brutal, leading to a confrontation that left Clovis severely wounded.
Passersby rushed him to the Nkambe Regional Hospital Annex, where he is responding to treatment.
The perpetrator, MMI learnt, has been arrested pending investigations.
Wider Problem
Clashes between Fulani cattle rearers and local farmers are recurrent in Nkambe and other parts of the North West.
The recent happening comes after Mbororo community leaders and Wimbum traditional rulers met at the invitation of the administration to discuss living together and peaceful coexistence.
