Some Fulani men are reported to have stormed the town of Wum in the Menchum Division of the North West Region, in a revenge attack.
“when they discovered three days ago that their brothers were killed, they started killing civilians too. They went to a funeral, destroyed everything, killed at least three people, and left many others injured. We are now living in fear,” recounted a Wum resident.
On Monday, July 25, the corpses of four Fulani men kidnapped earlier were found around lake Wum.
While some pointed fingers at separatist fighters for their death, others attributed the barbaric act to security forces.
However, some Fulani men yesterday, July 26, shortly after discovering the corpses decided to invade the town of Wum, attacking residents and accusing them of neutralizing their brothers.
“Wum is now recolonized by Muslims… Let the world know that menchum division is being colonized by Muslims” a resident decried.
Another resident testified that the forces of law and order watched on, but did nothing to stop the angry invaders from wreaking havoc on the local population.
Many residents were severely injured.
Enraged, locals are said to have mobilised this morning to retaliate against the Fulanis, but we’re intercepted by the forces of law and order who have been trying to disperse them.
Violent clashes between Fulanis and locals in different parts of the North West region continue uninterrupted.
In most instances, locals accuse them of invading farmlands with cattle, with the support of administrative authorities.
The Fulanis on their part are accusing locals of siding with separatist fighters who in turn attack them and their cattle.
