Security forces stationed at the Ngeng Junction in Bamenda have used the muddy nature of the area to humiliate the population.
In the early hours of 20th May, 2022 which is being celebrated as the Golden Jubilee of the Unitary State, soldiers reportedly forced those who went out in the early hours of the day to sit in mud.
According to one of the victims who spent the night at the PMI Hospital in Nkwen with his mother, the soldiers could be heard saying some nasty things.
“They were telling us how they have come to wipe all Anglophones and that everywhere be bombed after the 20 May celebrations. Eventhough I had all my identification documents on me, I was still forced to sit in the mud despite telling them I was coming from the hospital, ” he said.
He also told us that no one was spared even women going to sell at the Nkwen market.
We also learned of similar reports from T-junction and other neighborhoods in Bamenda.
There are those who think the forces are only helping to enforce the lockdown operation called for by separatist fighters.
This has continued to cast doubts on the unity of the country where some parts are treated like they don’t belong especially the English speaking parts of the country.
