Bilingual Grammar School (BGS) Molyko Ex-Students Association (BIGSEA) 2002-2004 Batch has paid the school fees of some 34 beneficiaries.
The reciept handing over occassion took place on Firday the 4th of November 2022 at the BGS Molyko campus.
Out of the 34 students some were duely registered for the General Certificate of Examination (GCE) Ordinary and Advance Level during the 2022-2023 Academic year. These vulnerable but deserving students face difficulty paying for their education as most are Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
The BIGSEA Batch mates, Nyeungeh Fekeme, BIGSEA General’s Financial Secretary sitting in for the team said after assessing how they are doing as a batch, they realised that they have achieved a lot of things, but which did not include their alma mater. She added this prompted them to go back to BGS Moloyko and give in return to the institution.
“We are a blessed batch made up of several professionals and it is all thanks to the fact that we were able to study in an institution of this standing.
Among the various suggestions on what to do, we decided that we were going to pay school fees, which we did directly to the Bursar and obtained receipts that will be given back to the parents of the laureates.”
Madam Nyeungeh Fekeme intimated the choice of school fees was influenced by the fact that students are usually drawn back whenever they are sent away because they cannot pay their school fees.
“If the child is sent away today, and their fees is paid a week later, that means they have missed classes for one week. We therefore came in fast ahead of time to do the little we could do, so as to encourage others of good will to follow in line.
Imagine that every BIGSEA Batch of this prestigious Institution of Learning opts to carryout such a gesture, then we can be able to pay the fees of every underprivileged child in BGS Molyko.
The 2002-2004 BIGSEA Batch is drawing strenght from God the giver of every good thing and because we cannot thank Him enough, we honestly had to plough back and offer this little but significant token to these talented and meritorious beneficiaries. Thank you BGS Molyko Buea”, Fekeme posited.
The batch nonetheless admonished the students to make ample use of the scholarship offer because at the end of the year, they will be looking forward to moreso financially support the laureates, this time based on their performances. She opined that the act of giving gladdens their hearts more than it does to the receiving students.
On behalf of parents of the beneficiaries, Mr Manjong expressed gratitude to the 2002-2004 batch for coming to assist the students and parents at such a crucial time. He also called on the batch to continue helping other people in similar situations.
The principal of BGS Molyko likewise thanked the donors for studying the situation before coming in to assist. She said sometimes, people come to give aid where it is not valued, and that the 2002-2004 batch came to give assistance upon proper needs assessment evaluation.
Mong Bertin Chi, a Form 4 student whose fees was paid, tearfully expressed gratitude to the donors. She said previously, she had been sent away from school because of her inability to pay fees. “I was sent away so many times when I was in Form 3 and it really dropped my academic performance, so I really want to thank them (2002-2004 Batch) for helping me out this Academic year, and I promise that I will work harder and have a positive and remarkable academic year”, she culminated.
