The National Anti Corruption Body in Cameroon, CONAC yesterday released its 2018 report.
According to the body, the Limbe City Council alone is responsible for the loss of FCFA 9 billion by the state.
The report has since raised a question on how Limbe City Council alone can be responsible for 9 billion francs cfa when the same report indicates that Cameroon lost close to 9.5 billion as a result of corruption in 2018.
According to the report, additional losses include FCFA 180 million lost from the Nkometou tollgate, over FCFA 14 million from the Bafia District Hospital and FCFA 3 million from the
Government High School Obala PTA.
This is not the first time the Limbe city council has been accused of corrupt practices. According to The Guardian Post daily newspaper, workers of the Limbe City council reportedly used a bulldozer to prevent CONAC from taking away documents in 2016.
The recent revelation many say indicates not only the amount of decay within institutions in the country, but also the non responsiveness of government to these actions.
Many still question CONAC’s report however, given that there are several other bodies accused of certain illicit financial practices that were expected to make the list probably with huge sums too.
