Cameroonian-born, Msgr. Jerome Feudjio, appointed Bishop in USA

The Head of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis has named Fr. Jerome Feudjio as the new Bishop of St. Thomas Cathedral in Virgin Islands in the U.S.A.

Before his appointment, Msgr Jerome Feudjio served as the Vicar General and the Chancellor of St. Thomas, and as Rector of the Sts. Peter and Paul Cathedral.

His appointment was confirmed today in Washington DC by Arch Bishop Christophe Pierre, the Apostolic Nuncio to the United States of America.

Born in Dschang, West region in 1955, Msgr Jerome Feudjio graduated from St. Albert Catholic School in Dschang in 1967 and attended St. John College of the Christian Brothers of Quebec in Mbanga, Cameroon between 1968 and 1972.

He attended Saint Apostles Seminary of the Fathers of the Sacred Heart in Otelé, Cameroon from 1972to 1975, and the Major Seminary of Nkolbison in Yaoundé, Cameroon from 1975 to 1979.

He traveled to the U.S in 1980 where he met Father Sean O’Malley who invited him to stay at San Francisco House, run by the Spanish Catholic Center of the Archdiocese of Washington.

After Father O’Malley was made Bishop of St. Thomas Diocese, Fr. Feudjio was invited to work as a campus minister at Saints Peter & Paul School in 1988. He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Saint Thomas on September 29, 1990.

In 2002, he was named by Pope John Paul II a Chaplain of His Holiness, a recognition that carried the honorary title of Monsignor.

After his ordination in the U.S, he held several key positions such as; parochial vicar at Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral and Saint Anne Chapel; French and religion teacher; assistant principal at Saints Peter and Paul School; diocesan finance officer; director of vocations and Administrator and Rector of the Sts. Peter and Paul Cathedral amongst others.
