An estimated 90 people have died after a pastor in Kenya, Paul Makenzi Nthenge told his followers at the Good News International Church to fast to death.

Dozens of bodies have in the past days been dug out of their graves by Kenyan police in Malindi, a coastal town in the southeastern part of the country.

Kenya Broadcasting Station (KBC) said that 58 graves have so far been identified, adding that dead children are among those that have been exhumed

Paul Makenzi Nthenge, pastor of Good News International Church (an occultic church) reportedly instructed his congregation to starve themselves in order to “meet Jesus”.

Nthenge who is now under police custody, has denied any wrongdoing.

Meanwhile, there are fears that the death toll could increase.

Kenya’s President, William Ruto said in a televised speech on Monday that this is “akin to terrorism,” adding that: “Terrorists use religion to advance their heinous acts.”
