Amadou, an ex-Ambazonian fighter who recently switched sides and began working with the Cameroon military, was shot and killed recently in what is believed to be a planned ambush. While the exact date of the incident is not clear, the images obtained by MMI show different angles of Amadou’s corpse in the early stages of decomposition. Some sources have, however, told MMI that the killing took place on Wednesday, May 29th, but this cannot be independently verified.

According to reports, a group of Ambazonian separatist fighters approached Amadou, claiming they intended to surrender. Amadou, trusting their claims, agreed to meet them at a designated location to escort them out of the bush. However, upon arrival at the meeting point, Amadou was fatally shot by the armed group.

Amadou’s past involvement in the conflict adds a layer of complexity to the situation. He initially fought alongside the Ambazonian separatists, known as the Red Dragons of Lebialem. Later, he reportedly joined the government’s Deradicalisation, Disarmament, and Reintegration (DDR) programme, aiming to reintegrate into society. Following the DDR programme, Amadou is said to have taken on a vigilante role, assisting the military.

The circumstances surrounding Amadou’s death remain unclear. Many suspect the Ambazonian fighters lured him into a trap, while the motive for the attack is still under investigation.

The government has used many of the ex-Ambazonian fighters who have gone to the DDR to encourage others to drop their arms, while others are being used for government propaganda.
