Three people have been reported dead and one other injured after a local bomb shattered a civilian transport vehicle in Oshum, on the Bali-Batibo road in the North West Region.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at about 4pm, according to information MMI gathered.

Two passengers and the driver were killed in the blast, while one person reportedly survived and was taken to the hospital by officers of the Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR).

No group has claimed responsibility for the bomb blast.

However, local sources are pointing fingers at armed militants of the Ambazonia separatist movement who have been using improvised explosive devices (IEDs) to target the military for several years now.

The incident comes after a series of violent attacks on people and their property by separatists in the North West Region.

Batibo and Bali, the closest towns to Oshum where the incident occurred have been hotspots of separatist-military confrontations with the local population living on the edge of insecurity.

The road linking both towns, which is part of the Bamenda-Mamfe-Ekok road has also been blocked severally by separatists, with civilian vehicles targeted on some occasions for violating separatists lockdowns.
