Another unfortunate incident has occurred in Cameroon, as news emerges that well-known musician Atango De Manadjama has been injured in a car accident today, July 3rd, 2024. This incident adds to the ongoing series of road tragedies that have been plaguing the nation. This incident occurred mere hours after the Vatican Express was engaged in another accident near Makenene, once again drawing attention to the concerning increase in traffic fatalities afflicting the nation.
There is a lack of information regarding the accident involving De Manadjama. Photos shared on various social media platforms depict a significantly damaged blue vehicle, yet the exact cause of the collision remains undisclosed. Reports indicate that the musician, who is widely recognised as a pioneer of the popular Cameroonian music genre known as “father of zèkè zèkè,” is currently undergoing medical treatment.
Nelson Appolinaire Ngoh, the son of De Manadjama, was also in the vehicle and unfortunately suffered a fractured thigh. There is currently no information available about the condition of any other potential passengers.
This latest incident adds to a string of tragic accidents that have deeply impacted Cameroon in the past few days. Earlier today, another crash occurred involving the Vatican Express near Makenene, contributing to the increasing number of incidents. Over the weekend, there were tragic accidents at Dschang Hill and Limbe that resulted in the loss of many lives.
The high accident rate is attributed to poor road conditions, ageing vehicles, and reckless driving. These recent tragedies may prompt the government to feel a heightened sense of urgency in tackling these pressing issues and enforcing more stringent traffic regulations in order to prevent additional loss of life.
Although Atango De Manadjama’s injuries are said to be non-life threatening, the accident is a sobering reminder of the risks that Cameroonians are currently facing on the road.
