Cameroon’s armed separatists, known as Ambazonian fighters, have shot and killed a woman identified as Feyufe Lauratrice Bih in Mbessa, a locality in Belo, Boyo division of the restive North West region.
Her body was found early Monday, July 22, 2024, at the scene of a shooting spree carried out by the separatists on Sunday.
Sources say Bih had joined other women in a protest against the kidnapping of a man in Mbessa by the armed men.
“Somebody was captured and imprisoned by the boys. The Ngumba instructed all women to march to where the man was temporarily imprisoned to secure his release,” a source told MMI, opting for anonymity.
While the women were marching towards the separatist hideout, the fighters opened fire at the protesting women, aborting the protest.
“Upon their arrival there, the boys started shooting, and the women took a u-turn,” the source said, adding, “It was this morning that the lifeless body of Madam Feyufe Lauratrice Bih was discovered around the area where the shooting took place yesterday.”
Separatist Ambazonia fighters have continually targeted unarmed civilians in their armed crusade to create a separate state in Cameroon’s Anglophone regions. Bih is one of many lives lost at the hands of the separatist Ambazonia fighters.
