The office of the Divisional Officer for Jakiri in Bui Division of the restive North West Region has been vandalised in an attack claimed by armed militants of the Ambazonia separatist movement.

The government structure reportedly came under attack on Sunday, July 21, according to an amateur viral video obtained by MMI.

In the video, fighters are seen shattering windows of the building, setting part of it on fire through the window.

MMI could not independently confirm the extent of the damage caused to the structure. Current accounts from some locals indicate that the damage was minor, but this has not been confirmed by any recent evidence from the scene.

Separatists identifying themselves as belonging to the Ambazonia Defence Forces (ADF) have claimed responsibility.

“This is a live video. We are at the DO’s office, Jakiri,” said a voice overhead in the video.

Amid thunderous gunshots, the voice adds, “This is ADF Bui state. We have harvested.”

It is unclear wether there was any confrontation with the security forces as the fighters are seen parading the premises of the DOs office unperturbed.

Claims by separatists of having killed soldiers in the process are not corroborated by the video, which runs for over three minutes. Also, considering that the attack is alleged to have happened on a Sunday, it is unlikely that there would have been anyone on site.

Public authorities have not reacted to the attack.
