Cameroon’s flag bearers at the ongoing Paris Olympic Games have all been eliminated from the competition without securing a single medal. Six athletes, accompanied by over 30 officials, represented the country at the Games in Paris, France.

The last Cameroonian athlete to bid farewell to Paris 2024 was Linda Angounou, who failed to qualify for the semi-finals of the women’s 400-meter hurdles in a catch-up series on Tuesday morning, August 6th.

Linda Angounou carried the last hopes of an entire country. Unfortunately, those hopes were dashed when she failed to qualify for the semi-finals in the women’s 400-meter hurdles.

She competed in heat number three and finished third with a time of 30.09 seconds. This was insufficient, as only the top two finishers automatically qualified for the semi-finals.

Despite failing to qualify, Angounou set a new national record for Cameroon, which left her pleased. This achievement ranks her among the world’s best women’s 400-meter hurdlers at the end of the Olympic Games.

With Angounou’s exit, all Cameroonian representatives have now bowed out of the competition. The first to be eliminated was Silver Hanfo in table tennis, followed by Georgo in the men’s 100-meter freestyle swimming, Manuella Ngello in the women’s 50-meter swimming, and Sopi Mbella.

Emmanuel Alobwede, who had qualified for the semi-finals, failed to advance to the finals late Sunday night.

By Monday, August 6, Team Cameroon had officially concluded their participation in the Paris Olympic Games. Some athletes remain at the Games Village, spending time visiting different competition sites to watch other African athletes compete, making new friends, and sharing experiences.

Linda Angounou expressed satisfaction with her performance, particularly in setting new personal records.

She told a Canal+ reporter, “I loved the race. I ran extremely well. I can’t blame myself, honestly, as I promised to set a new record for myself. And for me, I have succeeded. I have broken Cameroon’s records and am among the best at the Olympics. For me, it is a win. My opponents were strong, but I think we were at the same level.”

Team Cameroon aimed to win more than one medal in a single Olympic edition for the first time in history.

However, not only did they fail to secure a single medal, but they also delivered underwhelming performances in their respective disciplines.
