Two people lost their lives and nine others sustained injuries, after a bus belonging to Finexs Voyages interurban transport agency crashed along the Douala-Yaounde road on Monday.
The accident occurred at Sombo village, about 100 kilometers from the nation’s capital Yaounde. It involved a Finexs VIP bus registered LT 348 MI, which left Douala for Yaounde on Monday morning.
In a statement released after the accident, the company’s General Manager, Beatrice Etoundi, blamed a wrong overtaking by a logging truck for the unfortunate incident.
“Indeed, this FINEXS Voyages bus was hit by a logging truck dangerously overtaking another logging truck, even though the lane in front was not at all clear,” the statement from the company’s General Manager said.
“In this dangerous maneuver, this logging truck, swerving to the opposite side, hit the vehicles coming in line in front, including a flatbed truck and the FINEXS bus. Despite the defensive driving actions of the FINEXS driver, he was unable to completely avoid the impact of the logs, which knocked him into the adjacent brush…,” it added.
The result of the crash was two deaths and nine injuries, including two workers of Finexs. Images that surfaced online on Monday also indicated millions worth of material losses incurred from the accident.
The injured victims were rushed to the Catholic Hospital and the Pouma District Hospital before being evacuated to hospitals in Douala and Yaounde.
The accident adds to a long list of ghastly car accidents that have occurred along major roads in Cameroon this year.
