This morning, the Kumba-Mamfe road was blocked by suspected Ambazonia separatist fighters at Mile 19. The blockage has caused significant disruption, with all vehicles currently seeking refuge at the ‘burnt weigh bridge’.

Reports indicate that some cars and passengers have been taken into the bush at Mile 19. As of now, the reason behind the road blockage remains unclear.

It is not yet clear if the authorities are working to address the situation and ensure the safety of all affected individuals. This is not the first time this same Kumba-Mamfe stretch of road has been blocked. The previous blockage lasted over three days.

Since the onset of the conflict, separatist fighters have been involved in numerous attacks targeting civilians. These groups have enforced school boycotts, leading to the closure of many educational institutions. They have also imposed “lockdowns” or stay-at-home orders, punishing those who do not comply. Civilians who are perceived to support the government or who do not adhere to separatist demands have faced kidnappings, torture, and even killings.

The separatists’ actions have severely disrupted daily life in the Anglophone regions, making it difficult for the local population to access essential services and maintain their livelihoods. The ongoing violence has resulted in thousands of deaths and has displaced hundreds of thousands of people.

The situation remains dire, with both the separatists and government forces accused of human rights abuses, further complicating efforts to find a peaceful resolution.

Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
