Two police officers lost their lives when a homemade bomb detonated at a checkpoint in Mile 4 Nkwen. Tragically, the device, concealed within a tyre strategically placed to obstruct the road, exploded when one of the officers tried to remove it, leading to their untimely demise. This unfortunate incident took place just a few days after two other officers were fatally shot by separatists who were disguised as women in traditional ‘kaba’ attire. The assailants approached on motorcycles, adding to the complexity of the situation.
These incidents, such as the tragic shooting of another police officer by separatist fighters in Bamenda earlier this year on January 28, highlight the increasing instability in the region.
