Uganda’s main opposition leader, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known by his stage name Bobi Wine has been rushed to the hospital after being shot by the police.

The leader of National Unity Platform Political party was targeted Tuesday afternoon in a confrontation with the police after demonstrations went violent in Bulindo,Wakiso District on the outskirt of the Ugandan capital Kampala.

A post shared on X formally tweeter handle of Bobi wine said , “Our President Bobi Wine has been shot in the leg by police in Bulindo! He’s been rushed to hospital for urgent medical attention.”

Photos shared online reviewed by MMI show Wine supported and led into a waiting car by supporters.

Bobi Wine, 42, is a vocal critic of long time Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni.

He unsuccessfully contested for Presidency in 2021 coming a distant second amidst reports of fraud and rigging.

He has been victim of arrest and torture under Yoweri regime.
