Elias Ebai, identified as a roadside vendor, has died by suicide after pouring acid on his wife in Bamenda, North West region of Cameroon.
The incident occurred on Saturday, October 12, in the Alahlieh neighbourhood, located in Mile Four, Nkwen. According to reports, Elias’ wife, Dr. Bongka Vivian, suffered severe burns after the acid injury and is currently in critical condition at a hospital.
Details surrounding the incident remain unclear. However, reports indicate that neighbors heard the woman scream, signaling that something was wrong. When they arrived, Elias had already died, reportedly after ingesting the same chemical.
The woman, severely injured and pleading, was rushed to a nearby health facility for urgent medical attention. In an amateur video, she can be heard saying, “Please help me,” as she is taken for treatment.
It is unclear what led Elias to this tragic act, which has resulted in his own death and left Vivian fighting for her life.
