The Prime Minister, Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute, has discussed the challenges affecting the forestry and wildlife sectors in Cameroon.
This was on Thursday, as he chaired the cabinet meeting for October.
However, the PM, on his X page, did not give details about the challenges in the sector. Meanwhile, the minister of Forestry and Wildlife two months ago held a meeting with all regional delegates under his ministry in Limbe.
In that meeting, they discussed ways of curbing illegal poaching and exploitation of timber in the country. Climate change is another problem that is rocking the forestry and wildlife sectors in Cameroon too. Encroachment of people into protected areas and the hunting of certain species of animals by locals were some of the problems, too.
The PM in his cabinet meeting would have been looking at ways to eradicate these challenges.
Laws on Archiving
Another issue that the Prime Minister said was at the top of the agenda was the Law on Archiving in the country. So, they were looking at ways to bring innovations into the sector. Most of the archives in Cameroon are still being accessed only manually.
The cabinet meeting was probably looking at ways that archives can be accessed from anywhere. However, a challenge remains because some public institutions do not update their activities online. Some ministries, for instance, don’t have functional websites.
